Cervical Cancer Treatment

The prognosis for cervical cancer patients depends greatly upon the extent of disease at the time of diagnosis. While more than 90 percent of cases are detected early, women still die from cervical cancer; about 33 percent of women still do not receive regular Pap and HPV testing, according to the National Cancer Institute. Clinical staging must be supplemented by several gross and microscopic pathologic findings in surgically treated patients, including volume and grade of tumor, histologic type, lymphatic spread, and vascular invasion.
